Ephemera by Sophia Faustino is a visual and poetic anthology captured in 35mm film and Polaroids, where the author reflects on her four years in New York City. Inspired by artists like Andy Warhol, The Ink Spots, Nat King Cole, The Who, and David Bowie, the work explores themes of self-discovery and metamorphosis, contemplating the transient nature of life and the fleeting essence of film photography. It establishes a dialogue on legacy and features perspectives from St. Francis College alumni, members of the TV station Terrier TV, and her Brazilian family members. With texts in Portuguese and English, Ephemera also delves into her Romani heritage and experiences growing up in a family influenced by Umbanda, weaving a multicultural portrait of memories and transformation. Dwell in Ephemera and allow yourself to be inspired by the beauty of impermanence as you reflect on your own journey of change and rebirth.

I along with many others took candid photographs and/or contributed writings to this book. It was my absolute pleasure to help with this endeavor and actually have writing published (somewhere other than my blog!) My time at St. Francis College was very important to my artistic evolution and the students and members of the Terrier TV Studio, the St. Francis College Radio station, and the Multicultural Center have a special place in my heart forever. I really felt a family environment with my fellow studio members and they gave me the affectionate nickname of “Unc” because of course I was between 8-12 years older than literally every student on the campus. I am so proud of all of us, and I know those 20-25 members including myself are all changed for the better! The memories, the projects, the adversity, and the triumphs were all so important to me and I again wouldn’t have gone into debt with another set of students than them!

My contribution to Ephemera explores my creative journey, re-discovery, and the parallels and between the beach (LA PLAYA!) and life. Check it out below!
